Historical note

The National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended, was enacted by Congress to preserve and protect the nation’s historic buildings, neighborhoods, landscapes, and archaeological sites. Section 106 of the Act requires federal agencies to afford the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and opportunity to comment on activities and programs of the agency that may affect properties that are included or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.
