Scope & content

This collection primarily contains documentation of the publication and marketing of R.A. Scotti’s Sudden Sea, published in 2003. The collection includes 1930s photographs of the aftermath of the storm provided to Scotti by survivors as well as promotional material, the text of speeches and other material related to the promotion of the book. In addition to the Sudden Sea papers, the second series of the collection contains photocopies of R.A. Scotti’s papers from Loyola University's R.A. Scotti papers.

The collection is arranged in two series:

Biographical note

Rita A. Scotti was born in
Providence, Rhode Island in 1943. As a journalist she worked for the Providence Journal and the Newark Star-Ledger. Her career as an author includes works of fiction and non-fiction. Sudden Sea is a non-fiction account of the 1938 hurricane that devastated
New England.
