Series I. Awards and Citations
Box 1.5
This collection includes various awards received by Hon. Aime J. Forand for his involvement in service organizations and for his work as a Congressman of Rhode Island for the United States House of Representatives.

Among the materials within this series are certificates of appreciation, civic service awards, statues of recognition, pins and charms given for membership to clubs and organizations, his service in World War I, and an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Rhode Island College.

Additional items include the pens used by Presidents Truman, Eisenhower, Johnson to sign amendments to the Civic Service Retirement Act, Federal excise tax, and the Social Security Act, amendments which Forand was directly involved in creating.

Series III. Correspondence
The correspondence featured is primarily of a political nature. There are several letters of significance between Forand and Presidents Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Johnson, and Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey.

In addition to presidential and vice presidential correspondence, the series includes Forand's letters with fellow congressmen, senators, foreign ambassadors, Governor John H. Chafee of Rhode Island, presidential cabinet members, and other prominent leaders of industry, civic organizations, and political groups.

Series IV. Election Materials
The series contains the campaign materials, certificates of election, political memorandums, election articles, and photographs of Aime J. Forand on the campaign trail. As a Rhode Island Congressman for the United States House of Representatives, Forand served several terms in office and this series highlights his work and effort to be elected, and re-elected, for this position. In addition, Forand was the National Chairman of the Senior Citizens-for-Kennedy Committee, and played an integral role in campaigning for John F. Kennedy among citizens over sixty-five years old.

Series V. Invitations
Within this series, there are a number of invitations for Presidential Inaugurations, White House receptions, foreign embassy balls, Jefferson-Jackson dinners, memorial services, ceremonies centered on political events, and testimonial dinners in honor of Aime J. Forand, given by some of the civic organizations to which he belonged: the Franco-American Democratic Club, Bristol Lions Club, and the Le Foyer Franco-American group.

The government papers which comprise this series include congressional records from 1937 until 1972, hearings before the the Joint-Sub Committee on Long-term care of the Special Committe on Aging of the United States Senate, remarks and speeches made by Aime J. Forand in front of the House of Representatives, press releases for official statements made by Forand on social security, taxes, and medical insurance, and addresses made by Forand in front of the Golden Rings' Club Rally in New York City. These papers detail Forand's career as a Congressional representative as well as his advocacy work on behalf of the elderly and disabled.

Series VII. Memorabilia
This series contains a variety of materials that had a personal significance to Aime J. Forand. There are several items, such as pins, tie clasps, a leather wallet, a desk set, wood gavels and university cowls, which pertain to different phases of Forand's life in the military, public office, and as a political figure. In addition, the series includes Forand's social security card, member passes to the United States House of Representative and United States Senate, which were issued to Mrs. Aime J. Forand, and several political cartoons which directly relate to the Forand Bill. The series lends further insight into the personal life of Forand through biographical sketches and quotes, prayers, and mementos collected by the late congressman.

This series includes photographs regarding Aime J. Forands' life, including his life before politics, his life as an elected official, as well as his life after elected office. Series IX. Recordings
This series includes film reels and audio recordings from Aime J. Forand's personal collection. The film reels and some of the audio recordings are of the Forand family at their home in Florida, as well as on special occasions.

The other tape recordings pertain to his life in elected office, and contain a commemoration of President Eisenhower's Inauguration, congressional addresses given by President Eisenhower, and speeches by Aime J. Forand on Social Security and Medicaid, including the Golden Ring Clubs' Rally in New York City. Additionally, there are several recorded programs of Washington Reports to the People, focusing on senior citizens and improvements to Social Security.
