Scope & content

The Miriam Cooke papers are primarily comprised of material from Cooke’s early research and publications on Arabic women's literature and war. The collection includes unpublished translations, correspondence with contributors, and planning documents from Opening the Gates: An Anthology of Arab Feminist Writing (1990). The collection also contains material relating to Cooke’s work on women and war, including interviews with women featured in War’s Other Voices: Women Writers of the Lebanese Civil War (1988); material relating to the publication of Gendering War Talk (1993), co-edited with Angela Woollacott; and a handwritten manuscript of the novel Hayati, My Life (2000). The collection also contains research notes, course syllabi, and conference materials.
