Series 1. Subject Files
The Records of the Women’s Studies (WMS) program include annual reports, budgets, and correspondence of the coordinators. There are meeting minutes from both the Advisory Committee, which proposed the original Women’s Studies program, and the Women’s Council, which included off-campus community members in planning and initiating programs for women.

This series also provides information about courses included in the WMS program and initiatives ranging from a masters program to a feminist research center. Some of the earliest documents available are the original WMS bibliography and the proposals for the Bachelor’s Degree in WMS. The series contains some of the Women’s Studies newsletters. A more complete set is cataloged in the University Archives.

Series 2. Speakers
The Women’s Studies department has been bringing speakers to the campus since 1980, when the department hosted the New England Women’s Studies Association Annual Conference. The Fredrika Wild Schweers Memorial Lecture in Women’s Health was established the same year, and in 1987, the department began planning a series of lectures for each semester. (The subject file contains further information about the planning of these lecture series.)

In 1995, money from the Carlson endowment was used to start another annual lecture. At the same time, the Women’s Studies department supported interdisciplinary lectures like the honors colloquium and shared the costs of visiting scholars with other departments. A timeline of Women’s Studies lectures and other events is available in Appendix A.

This series contains press kits, flyers, itineraries, and correspondence between the Women’s Studies coordinator, speakers, and other departments on campus.
