Elizabeth Morris Smith (1915-1994) grew up and lived in both New York City and Newport, Rhode Island. She and her sister, Alletta Nathalie Lorillard Morris McBean (1912-1986), contributed in countless ways to Newport’s historic and cultural preservation.

This collection consists of autographs, letters, poems, clippings, and other memorabilia from various poets, writers, artists, sports figures, and politicians collected by Elizabeth Morris Smith. For the majority of the items in this collection, Smith placed each item into its own folder and oftentimes included biographical information about the person of interest. Of note is a 1931 letter by Franklin D. Roosevelt while Governor of New York.
