Biographical note

George C. Mason, Jr. (1849-1924) was born on August 8, 1849, in Newport, Rhode Island, the son of prominent Newport architect, George C. (1820-1894) and Frances (Dean) Mason. At the age of eighteen, George C. Mason, Jr. entered his father’s successful architectural firm and by 1871 was made a full partner of the firm. George C. Mason and Son remained in operation until his father’s death in 1894. In January 1888, he moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, after marrying Sarah Borie (1854-1930) and opened a branch office of George C. Mason and Son at 502 Walnut Street in Philadelphia. From 1895 until his own death in 1924, Mason, Jr. practiced as an architect on his own, taking a special interest in the restoration of historic structures. George C. Mason, Jr. died on April 22, 1924, in Ardmore, Pennsylvania.
