Theodore H. Patterson Druggist Recipe book (Ms.2018.003)

The collection consists of one bound volume, 19.5 x 13 cm. Inside the cover is printed the name, "T. H. Patterson", or quite possibly “J. W. Patterson.” On the title page is printed “Receipt Book, Chicago, Mar. 1st 1866.” About one third of the way through there is an additional title page labeled “Bliss & Sharp’s Formula, Chicago. Feb 1st, 69” which is surrounded by an ornate floral wreath. The front of the book is an alphabetical tab index, followed by various remedies on pages 1-177, and an index on pages 235-259. Recipes and remedies include Fire Works, Root Beer, Ginger Syrup, Cough Remedies, Invisible Ink, Strychnia, and more.
