Abstract: These papers document James C. Dickson's career as an activist and organizer for disabled individuals and the founding and development of the American Association of People with Disabilities. It includes materials Dickson used in his efforts to insure the voting rights of disabled persons and their access to polling places, especially in the VOTE!2000 Campaign. Later materials cover electronic voting issues and the lead in to the 2008 presidential election. The collection also contains documentation of other organizing efforts involving the rights of children, especially children with disabilities, and the medical care of the elderly and people with disabilities. Extensive additions to the collection include material on the development of the American Association of People with Disabilities and the organization's involvement with voting issues, as well as Dickson's attempt to sail across the Atlantic.
