Anna Tirocchi and Laura Tirocchi immigrated from Guarcino, Italy to the United States in 1905 and in 1910 they were living in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1911, they opened their dressmaking business, A and L Tirocchi, in the Butler Exchange in downtown Providence. In 1915, after Laura married physician Louis J. Cella, they purchased a mansion at 514 Broadway, where their dressmaking business took place on the second floor and the third floor held their workshop. They maintained their dressmaking business for over thirty years, making fashionable clothing for wealthy clients.
