Scope & content

The collection contains correspondence and reports of the Committee on Technology Utilization (CTU). Correspondence is between CTU committee members and several individuals and organizations within and outside of Rhode Island College (RIC). The collection includes several technology-related newsletters, papers, and projects from outside RIC that were collected by the committee. These include a Businessweek Communications article, a Brown University proposal to the System Development Foundation, and cooperation with the Annenberg School of Communication/ Corporation for Public Broadcasting Project, which funded the creation of various of video/audio courses and telecommunication projects across the country. The collection also contains the records of the CTU subcommittees: Subcommittee on Computer Support and the Inventory/Needs Assessment Subcommittee, which includes data collections from both subcommittees and their reports to the CTU.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Committee on Technology Utilization (CTU) was formed in 1981 under Rhode Island College President Sweet to assess the development of computers, audio and visual systems, and other technologies that would be relevant to higher education at RIC. The CTU and advisory panel would break into six subcommittees and would reconvene sometime after May 1983.
